What We Do

Ever wondered what a Historical Society does? Check out our programs!

The Edmonton and District Historical Society (EDHS) provides a number of historical and educational events and programs.

The quarterly Newsletter keeps members and the public informed of EDHS events and offers articles of historic interest.

The Speaker Series is a monthly presentation by local historians, authors, business owners and community members on topics of historical interest. The Speaker Series events are free to the public and take place in the Gymnasium of the Queen Alexandra School located at 7730 - 106 Street in Edmonton.

Other special events include John Rowand Night, a dinner, special guest speaker and Annual General Meeting in April and the Christmas Dinner, a festive evening of holiday entertainment with a historic twist.

The Historic Festival & Doors Open Edmonton is the major program focus of EDHS. In 1997 a group of dedicated volunteers with a collective vision planned and organized the 1st annual Historic Edmonton Week. Festival partners such as museums, historic sites and community groups in the Greater Edmonton region present events of historical interest for the genreral public.
