Event Details

A Wake for the Dreamland (World War II historical fiction with an Edmonton setting)

Speaker: Laurel Deedrick-Mayne, author

Laurel Deedrick-Mayne will talk about her best-selling novel, A Wake For The Dreamland: What inspired this Edmonton based coming-of-age story set against the backdrop of World War and the aftermath? What was involved in the ten year period of bringing the story from the brain to the bookshelf? How do the lines between history and fiction become blurred and how is this 'Edmonton' story representative of the wider Canadian experience. How do issues of homosexuality, PTSD and constructs of what it means to be family still resonate today?
