The Mitchell Residence was built in 1936 and has a picturesque, fairy tale quality to it with the main interest point being the hexagonal entrance tower with its nearly conical roof. The lot on which the house now stands was seized by the City of Edmonton from Margrath-Holgate for tax arrears in 1922, after which Frederick John Mitchell bought the lot for $650. He then built the house and lived in it until 1979 when he passed away at age 86. He was one of Edmonton's longest serving aldermen. He spent 24 years on City Council from 1941 to 1964. The Mitchell house is a private residence opened to the public. The tour is a fundraiser for the Highlands Historical Society.
