This year’s theme, Celebrate our Heritage - our Ties, recognizes the significance of the railway and its influence on the settlement and development of Alberta. The stories in the festival guide provides clues to the contest questions. The City of Edmonton Archives and the Provincial Archives of Alberta are also wonderful research resources to explore.

The photo on the festival guide cover portrays a significant event in Edmonton’s history.

  1. What is the name of the bridge?
  2. In what month and year was the photo taken?
  3. What significant crisis is represented in the photo?
  4. Identify two of the buildings in the photo background.

Please tell us more about this event and how the citizens of the area were affected by it. If you have any family stories to share about the photo or the event, we would love to hear those too.
